Something fairly pointless just to pass the time.

To the best of my knowledge, there was never a Grateful Dead cover of anything by Neil Young-as in the earlier thread, please correct me if I'm wrong-but what if there had been? What would have worked for them? These come to mind for me.

Are You Ready For The Country

Country Girl (from Deja' Vu-and I think it would have been a good choice for Phil on lead vocals along with group harmonies)

Thrasher (from Rust Never Sleeps) would have been a nice JGB vehicle.

And I think Weir could pull off Rockin' In The Free World,
maybe even as an encore.

Again, fairly pointless, but just for the fun of it. Thoughts?

Hey BryanE, just in case you (or others) haven't seen this, here's a bit of footage with Neil and the boys doing Dylan's "Forever Young" at Uncle Bobo's memorial:

In 2004 when touring as "The Dead", Cortez the Killer was played...not sure how often.

How come no one has mentioned This Note's For You. Jerry on the (MIDI) horns?

More seriously, Vampire Blues off On the Beach or in an acoustic show, For the Turnstyles w/ Jerry on banjo...

I was not there so I don't know if this is true but a friend saw Neil in concert in LA a few years ago. He was plugging the new album and started the show with 6 of 7 new songs. He noticed the audience wasn't too thrilled so he asked them if they'd like him to play soamething they'd heard before? The crowd goes nuts and neil proceeds to play one of the new songs he just performed minutes earlier. If that's true it's pretty damn funny

I would not put it past him at all.

Some time after he cancelled a show at our college campus for "health reasons," an old girlfriend of mine who had a few attitude issues saw him as she was leaving a diner outside of Nashville and asked if he was feeling better.

"Feeling better than what?"

She mentioned the cancellation, and he said he hadn't been sick, that the promoter had probably issued that statement as a reason for pulling that date from the itinerary. The two of them proceeded to get into a big argument, with her telling him that he had no right to lie to people, and him telling her that there hadn't even been enough tickets sold to pay his road crew.

It went back and forth until her current boyfriend, who had been paying the bill and using the washroom in the diner during the exchange, walked out the door to find her in the parking lot engaged in a shouting match with Neil Young. He broke up their fight, told him he loved Cinnamon Girl, and marched her over to their car asking her just what in the hell was wrong with her.

I maybe totally off base but I have a vague recollection of JGB doing a Powderfinger?

Can anyone confirm or reject?

If you have ever heard or seen Journey Through The Past there is a long, mournful jam on Words that nobody could top. If you have it, also listen to the demo of Alabama where Neil is instructing Crosby and Nash on how he wants the background vocals.

I've seen the film and have the soundtrack. I keep hoping that the film will be issued on DVD with extra footage of the CSNY Tour material. It is very well filmed. I first saw this movie at the old Cinemateque on Yonge Street in Toronto in 1974. It later played the 99 Cent Roxy in or around 1976. Since then it's been gone from sight.

"We should do an ooo there during "Banjos playing through the broken glass...a moving ooo...."

It has not been released on CD (the soundtrack) but a friend of mine recently used software to convert his vinyl copy and removed all the hiss crackle and pop of 28 years of playing.

JTTP marked the first time I ever heard anything off of Pet Sounds and when I found out it was the Beach Boys I was astonished.

Neil is one of my true heroes and I've stuck with him through thick and thin.
